What is Counselling?

Contrary to what many people think Counselling is not about giving advice but rather about allowing a person the space and support to understand their own mind and to reflect upon their experiences, emotions and behaviours so that they may work to overcome difficulties or challenges in their life.

What happens during a session?

During a counselling session we will take the time to explore problems and difficulties from every angle so that insight into feelings, behaviours and events will develop, enabling us to understand what has happened and why. Once we have developed this awareness we can work together and take a pro-active approach to overcome such difficulties.

How do I know if I need counselling?

Being able to talk to someone in complete confidence, who is not a friend or relative, can make a world of difference. Counselling enables a person to express and explore their feelings free from judgement and can help to develop greater self awareness and better ways of coping. Ultimately only the individual can decide if counselling is for them, but if it isn’t there are many other approaches that can help.

How long are the sessions?

Each session will last 60 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?

The amount of sessions required will vary for each individual. If you specifically want short term work please mention this during the initial consultation.
